LAKEVIEW — One month before a zoning board will decide the fate of a proposed Lakeview medical marijuana dispensary, neighbors will have a chance to voice their concerns.

The 44th Ward will host a community meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Cubby Bear, 1059 W. Addison St. MedMar will present its newly updated plans to open a clinic at 3812 N. Clark St., about two blocks north of Wrigley Field.

It will be the first time MedMar meets with neighbors after its failed attempt to open a dispensary at 2843 N. Halsted St., which was denied a special use permit in February.

At the time, residents and business owners voiced opposition to the proposed location, not the dispensary itself.

Last week, neighbors were stunned to learn of the new proposal and felt there wasn't sufficient time to learn enough about the project ahead of the Dec. 18 zoning hearing.

Some hoped the zoning hearing could be delayed, but the state has given MedMar a Dec. 31 deadline to complete its registration after the project has languished this year.

MedMar had one of 13 applications approved for a medical marijuana dispensary in Chicago this year.

After learning of the new proposal just last week, Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) shared more information over the past few days.

The two-story building and garage just north of Clark and Grace has a vacant storefront and three apartments. MedMar wants to buy the building and will convert the second-floor residences to offices.

Meanwhile, Uptown's first medical marijuana dispensary will host an open house this weekend.
