CHICAGO — Coaches United Against Violence — a consortium of Chicago area high school basketball coaches — will host its Fall Players Rally on Saturday at two Chicago locations.

The first session will take place from 9 a.m.-noon at Breakthrough FamilyPlex, 3219 W. Carroll Ave., and the second will be from 2-5 p.m. at Robeson High School, 6835 S. Normal Blvd.

Each of the three-hour anti-violence training sessions will feature a video talk from Duke University Basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, presentations from individuals including Marshall High School coach Shawn Harrington, team-building exercises and violence prevention workshops for the players led by former Chicago Public League players, crisis counselors and law enforcement officials.

Players, coaches, referees, family and police officers are invited to come together to learn and practice violence prevention strategies and techniques in an effort to create a safer place to live and play for all children in Chicago.

The coaches group’s steering committee members are Harrington, Louis Adams of Orr, Vince Carter of Von Stueben, Henry Cotton of Marshall, Bill Curry of Westinghouse, Nick LoGalbo of Lane Tech, Mike Oliver of Curie, Chris Pickett of Chicago Vocational, Tyrone Slaughter of Whitney Young, Robert Smith of Simeon and Louis Thorpe of North Lawndale College Prep.
