MORGAN PARK — Veterans in the 19th Ward will be able to receive free drinks, a free oil change and discounted breakfast on Wednesday.

Ellie's Cafe in Morgan Park will give free drinks to all veterans and active military throughout the day, said Cathy Favaro, owner of the breakfast and lunch spot at 10701 S. Hale Ave.

"It's OK to say, 'I'm a vet,'" Favaro said. "I'd appreciate it."

Veterans receive a 15 percent discount every day at Ellie's, but Favaro believes few take advantage of the deal. On Veterans Day, she's hoping more active military members and veterans speak up.

She's also partnered with the Beverly Area Planning Association and Hardboiled Coffee Co. The neighborhood group will help to share the cost of the promotion, and local roaster Gregg Wilson will donate the coffee.

"I'm a small business, so I can't afford the big, big things. But the little things, I can do," Favaro said on Tuesday.

Also participating is Jiffy Lube at 10345 S. Kedzie Ave. in Mount Greenwood. All active duty military and veterans will receive a free oil change on Wednesday. The shop is open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. on weekdays.

Beverly Bakery and Cafe is offering 20 percent off dine-in breakfast on Wednesday to active and former military. The popular breakfast spot is at 10528 S. Western Ave.
