UPTOWN — Theft was once again one "of the biggest issues" for beat 1915 in October, officers said at this month's CAPS meeting.

From Oct. 5 through Nov. 5, seven thefts of $500 or less occurred in beat 1915, which is bordered by Irving Park on the south, Montrose Avenue on the north, Clark Street on the west and Lake Michigan on the east. That was the most commonly reported crime on the beat during the time, officer said.

Top Crimes Committed in Beat 1915:

• Theft of $500 or less: 7

• Motor vehicle theft: 5

• Simple domestic battery: 4

• Theft over $500: 4

• Theft from building: 4

• Criminal damage to property: 3

• Criminal damage to vehicle: 3

• Non-aggravated criminal sexual assault: 2

• Burglary: 2

• Retail theft: 2

Officers said residents should be extra cautious during the holiday season and can ensure their home appears occupied by leaving lights on and shoveling snow during the winter months.

Officers also announced cutbacks in how often CAPS meetings are held in 2016, citing low attendance and a desire to "rebrand" the purpose of its community meetings.

Starting in 2016, each beat meeting "will focus on various crimes and safety/prevention topics." The meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of every even month, according to a flier for Beat 1915.

The 2016 schedule is as follows:

Feb. 4: Theft from vehicles

April 7: Garage burglaries

June 2: Residential burglaries

Aug. 4: Street safety and robberies

Oct. 6: Back-to-school safety

Dec. 8: Seasonal crime trends
