MORGAN PARK — "Words By Friends: Secrets" will give seven authors an opportunity to read their work in front of an audience from 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

The free event will be held in the Beverly Area Planning Association's community room at 1987 W. 111th St. in Morgan Park.

The authors include Lydia Barnes, Bill Grady and Grace Kuikman. All three writers are Beverly residents as well as part of the Longwood Writers Guild.

Steve English and Susan Anderson both of Morgan Park will also read their work along with Margie Browne Gallagher, a native of the Beverly area who recently moved to the south suburbs.

Finally, Erin Yanz, the proprietor of Erin's Farm in far south suburban Monee, will take the stage. Yanz, also a Beverly native, operates the modest farm as a way to sensitize people to animals and nature.

A voluntary donation will be asked at the event to support A New Direction. The Beverly-based crisis counseling center works with victims of domestic abuse. Anderson has also served as a speaker at the group's charity events.

English, owner of The Blossom Boys florist shop in Beverly, organized the second such reading event and opted for secrets as a theme.

"My thought [was] secrets freeze us if they are not told. When we tell our secrets, it's liberating. There will be some serious things revealed by authors," English said.
