CHICAGO — Chicago Police say they have found the person who shot and seriously wounded a 14-year-old boy as he waited for his mother to pick him up after school Thursday afternoon.

Police charged a 16-year-old boy with one felony count of aggravated battery and use of a deadly weapon for the shooting which occured on the 2700 block of East 89th Street on Thursday, according a news release Friday.

Around 4:30 p.m., the boy was reportedly on a basketball court at Bessemer Park, across from Bowen High School and Baker College Prep, when he was shot in his chest, police and media reports said. He was struck in his chest and wrist and taken to Comer Children's Hospital in serious condition, the news release said.

Police did not release any further details. Because the 16-year-old is a minor, they did not release his name or mugshot.
