NORWOOD PARK — Students — and their parents — trying to figure out where they should go to high school can get a closer look Saturday at Taft High School.

The Norwood Park school — now rated among the city's best neighborhood high schools — will host an open house for prospective seventh- and eighth-grade students interested in the school's academic center program with an assembly from 9-10 a.m. followed by tours and a fair to give students information about sports and afterschool activities.

The open house for students entering grades nine through 12 will start with assemblies at 10 and 11 a.m., followed by tours and a sports and activities fair at the school, 6530 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., organizers said.

Principal Mark Grishaber touts Taft as the city's best neighborhood high school and has been working to turn around Taft's less-than-stellar reputation.

Grishaber will be the featured speaker at Monday's meeting of the Edgebrook Community Association.

The meeting, which starts at 6:30 p.m. at Edgebrook Elementary School, 6625 N. Hiawatha Ave., is designed to give parents a chance to ask Grishaber questions about the school and its programs.
