COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man is facing weapons charges after police were able to find him using his state ID that he dropped while running from authorities, prosecutors say.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired saw Jeremiah Chambers, 18, standing near the 10200 block of South Eggleston Avenue on Sunday night, according to an arrest report. Chambers was holding a hoodie and ran away when police tried to talk to him, the report said.

Police began to chase Chambers and watched as he tossed a 9mm gun to the ground, court records show. One of the officers tripped and fell, and Chambers was able to run away.

But according to Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti, Chambers also dropped his hoodie — which contained his state ID.

Police arrested Chambers about 6:20 p.m. Sunday. He was later charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and he did not have a valid FOID card, prosecutors said.

Chambers, of the 6900 block of South Albany Avenue, is currently on juvenile probation for unlawful use of a weapon.

Cook County Judge James Brown on Monday set bail at $75,000 for Chambers.
