CHICAGO LAWN — Police issued a community alert Wednesday warning Chicago Lawn residents of a pair of armed robberies that have occurred within two blocks of each other this month.

In both cases, police said, a man walked up to people in the street and demanded money from them.

The first incident occurred at 8:10 a.m. on Oct. 9, on the 6900 block of South Campbell Avenue, police said. The second robbery was reported around 3:30 a.m. Oct. 26, on the 6900 block of South Western Avenue, about 500 feet away.

Police described the suspect for both robberies as a black man with dreadlocks, standing between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 10, and weighing between 160 and 170 pounds.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the incidents is encouraged to call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8382.
