CHICAGO — A suburban man has been arrested and charged with attacking a CTA employee Sunday on a Blue Line platform downtown, police said.

Braulio Portes, 26, of Des Plaines, was at the Clark and Lake Blue Line stop Sunday night when he attacked a 43-year-old woman working as a train operator, Chicago police said in a news release Tuesday.

The train had just pulled into the Blue Line station when Portes allegedly jumped through the open window of the operator's cabin and began attacking the "L" operator, police said.

CTA riders were able to get Portes off the woman, and detained him until police arrived, police said. The CTA employee was taken to Northwestern Hospital where she was listed in "stable" condition, police said.

Portes has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery to a transit employee. He was due in bond court Tuesday.
