BACK OF THE YARDS — A retail store Tuesday afternoon became the third business in Back of the Yards to be robbed at gunpoint in the past three weeks, police said.

Occurring "during afternoon hours" Tuesday, police said in a community alert, a man entered the store on the 1500 block of West 47th Street and brandished a gun, demanding money.

Police said a similar robbery occurred Oct. 23 in the 5200 block of South Ashland Avenue, and another on Oct. 7 in the 4900 block of South Ashland Avenue.

In all cases, the suspect is described as a black man in his 20s, between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing between 170 and 185 pounds, with a medium complexion and wearing his hair in "braids and/or ponytail."

Anyone with information on the incidents or the suspect is encouraged to call Area Central Detectives at 312-747-8382.
