CHICAGO — Resurfacing work on northbound Lake Shore Drive will cause lane closures beginning Monday, but officials are working to minimize the impact on Cubs traffic.

The Chicago Department of Transportation said crews will begin Monday resurfacing northbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive between Grand and North avenues

Much of the work will be done overnight, when crews will close two northbound lanes, the city said. Lanes will not be closed on weekends, the city said.

Single-lane closures will take place during the day, the city said, but it will be done at off-peak hours of 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

The daytime closures will not take place during Cubs home games, according to city. Crews will also take the Thanksgiving holiday weekend off.

The Cubs are scheduled to play at Wrigley Field Tuesday, Wednesday and, if necessary, Thursday.

The project will take about four weeks to complete, the city said.

Eventually, the section of Lake Shore Drive between Walton Avenue and Michigan Avenue — the S-curve near downtown — will have to be shut down entirely to ensure the safety of resurfacing crews, the city said.

The dates for those closures have not yet been announced.
