2 Men Dead, 7 People Wounded in Shootings Since Thursday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Two men have been killed and seven people wounded in shootings since Thursday, police said.

At 7:30 a.m., a 32-year-old man in the 6000 block of South Aberdeen Street in Englewood when he was shot in a drive-by, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman. The man was walking when a gray car passed and someone inside opened fire, hitting the man four times. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead there.

He was later identified as David Thomas by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, but his home address was unknown. He was pronounced dead at 8:51 a.m., officials said.

At 1:05 a.m. Friday, a 28-year-old man was found lying on the ground in an alley in the 8200 block of South Evans Avenue in Chatham with a gunshot wound in his head, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim is a documented gang member, police said.

In non-fatal shootings:

• Most recently, officers were responding to a call of a person shot when they found a man lying on the sidewalk at 12:10 a.m. in the 1200 block of South Kedvale Avenue in North Lawndale, Sedevic said. The man, who is 25 years old, was hit in his lower back and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was "stable," Sedevic said.

The victim has been uncooperative and is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 9:45 p.m. Thursday, a 17-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk at 93rd and Throop streets in Washington Heights when he was shot, Sedevic said. A black sedan pulled up and people got out of the car and fired at the man, hitting him in his shoulder.

The man's friends took him to Little Company of Mary Hospital, and he was transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was in "stable" condition, Sedevic said.

The man is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 8:45 p.m., an 18-year-old man and two others were trying to steal a car with in the 6100 block of South Laflin Street in Englewood when the car's owner shot the 18-year-old, police said. The man was hit in his left arm and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was in good condition.

Two other people are being questioned by detectives, Sedevic said. There are no charges yet.

• At 8:35 p.m., a 40-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 7800 block of South Trumbull Avenue in Ashburn when someone walked out of an alley and fired at him, Sedevic said. The man was hit in his left leg and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was in "stable" condition, Sedevic said.

• At 6:15 p.m., another man was shot in the 7800 block of South Trumbull Avenue, Sedevic said. A 25-year-old man was walking down the street when someone in a red sedan fired at him and drove off. The man was hit in his lower left leg and took himself to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was in "stable" condition, Sedevic said.

The man is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 3:35 p.m., two people were wounded during a shooting in the 10500 block of South Avenue B in East Side, Sedevic said. An 18-year-old man was standing outside when people walked up and shot at him, hitting him in the back. He took himself to Trinity Hospital and was expected to be transferred to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, Sedevic said.

A 19-year-old woman in a nearby home was also injured when a bullet grazed her head. She was in "stable" condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center, Sedevic said.

The man has been uncooperative and is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 2 p.m., a 25-year-old man was sitting in a car when he was shot in the 3200 block of West Diversey Avenue in Avondale, Sedevic said. Someone in a passing car fired in his direction, hitting him in the arm, and then drove off, Sedevic said.

The man was hit in his arm and was in good condition at Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Sedevic said.

The victim is a documented gang member, police said.

No one is in custody for these shootings.
