WEST RIDGE — Free shots are headed to the neighborhood this week — and they're the kind that will help fight off flu viruses, not make you feel like you have them after a night out.

The Chicago Department of Health will be stationed at the Croatian Cultural Center, 2845 W. Devon Ave., between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. as part of Ald. Debra Silverstein's flu shot clinic, gratis to residents of Chicago.

In anticipation of much harsher Chicago weather yet to come, Silverstein said the U.S. Department of Health suggests anyone over 6 months old get a flu vaccination before the winter is in full swing.

Seniors stopping by the event will also be able to take advantage of other city services, like getting free IDs, blood pressure and respiratory screenings and City Clerk street guides.

Representatives from Chicago Family Services, Legal Aid Society of Metropolitan Family Services and Metropolitan Water Reclamation District will also be on hand to provide seniors with assistance and answer any questions.
