CHICAGO LAWN — A 15-year-old boy was shot to death Wednesday afternoon on the South Side, police said.

At 4:38 p.m., the boy was brought to Stroger Hospital in critical condition after being shot in the upper body in the 6100 block of South Rockwell Avenue, according to Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The boy was later pronounced dead, Gaines said.

Cook County medical examiners identified the boy as Davion Funches, of the 6000 block of South Albany Avenue.

Police could not immediately provide any other information about the shooting, but said the boy was a documented gang member.

No one is in custody, Gaines said.
