UPTOWN — A flash mob of dancing zombies trouncing through Buttercup Park coupled with free brownies from Uptown Brownies are just the beginning of this month's festivities at Uptown Saturday Nights celebration.

The ode to Michael Jackson's Thriller, which residents have been preparing for the last three weeks, will take place during the Halloween Kick-Off at the park at 4901 N. Sheridan Road, which also includes music, games and prizes. The festivities will take place at the park from 4-6 p.m. or at the Margate Park Fieldhouse, 4921 N. Marine Drive, in case of inclement weather.

The first 50 residents will be treated to brownies from Uptown Brownies and performers from CircEsteem will be on hand to teach tight-wire skills. No costumes are required for the celebration, according to a news release for the event.

Beginning at 2 p.m. in the Uptown Entertainment District three walking tours of the neighborhood will take place every hour until 5 p.m. The walking tour will begin at Shake, Rattle and Read, 4812 N. Broadway, and take you on a mile-long tour hosted by a docent from Choose Chicago's Greeter Program. The tours are free.

Rio Bamba, whose "sound is a unique blend of Bossa Nova, Samba, American and Latin Jazz" will headline Uptown Saturday Nights beginning their first session at 8 p.m. and second session at 9 p.m. at Pho Viet, 4941 N. Broadway. The group will part of the World Music Festival, according to the release.

"The group moves easily from classic and swinging jazz, vocal or instrumental to a Brazilian Samba that brings everyone to the dance floor with its irresistible rhythms," according to their website.

Uptown Saturday Nights are held the second Saturday of each month.
