NORWOOD PARK — The annual walkathon to benefit Garvy Elementary School in Norwood Park is set for Friday.

Proceeds from the event will be used to buy Chromebooks for the neighborhood school at 5225 N. Oak Park Ave., said Kelly Sanabria, the chairwoman of the Garvy School Adopt-A-Classroom committee.

In previous years, the walkathon around the perimeter of the school raised money for the school's library and to buy musical instruments for students. It has been held annually for more than 10 years, Sanabria said.

Organizers hope to raise $10,000 to buy Chromebooks for an entire classroom, Sanabria said.

This is the second year the event has raised money for Chromebooks.

Students are asked to donate $5 to participate in the event, which will start at 8:45 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. Those who raise or donate $25 or more get a T-shirt, organizers said.
