CHICAGO — The market for insanely large quesadillas in Chicago has just doubled: Machetes Big Quesadillas has opened another restaurant on the Southwest Side.

After a successful first year in business at its 4888 S. Archer Ave. location, Machetes has announced their second location in Archer Heights, as well as an improved menu and service and name: The chain will be "rebranded" as The Quesadilla Factory, according to a press release.

Known for their 20-inch, machete-shaped quesadillas, the restaurant opened last year to great fanfare. But improvements and expansion are in store for this year, the restaurant said.

The new location is 4636 S. Cicero Ave. in Archer Heights. At either location, customers will receive their quesadilla in eight to ten minutes, as the restaurant hopes to improve its service times.

Quesadillas will still be made on the spot, however.

Owner Maria de Jesus Lopez Sandoval opened the shop after moving to Chicago from Mexico in 2012. The idea for the restaurant was spawned when she saw the massive quesadillas in markets around Mexico City.

"We have been really happy, and the customers love it, so it's been really good," Sandoval previously told DNAinfo Chicago.
