LAKEVIEW — Last year's Sunday Play Spots are back, but the event is getting upgraded to offer art, break dancing and mural painting.

This week will be the first Sunday Spot from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Paulina Street from Roscoe to Henderson. The free pop-up plaza will switch between art, music and play over the next three Sundays.

"We're creating a place where people can connect with each other and where businesses and organizations can engage with their community in fun and creative ways," said Lee Crandell, executive director of the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce.

On Sunday, the Art Spot will include painting lessons for dogs, break dancing with the Brickheadz crew at 12:30 p.m. and painting with Bottle and Bottega.

The event, organized by the chamber, Ald. Ameya Pawar (47th) and Whole Foods Market, is meant to foster a sense of community within the neighborhood.

"Sunday Spot provides a unique opportunity for neighbors and visitors alike to experience everything Lakeview has to offer," Pawar said.

Oct. 11's Music Spot will include music demos for children and "Tone," an art display with sensors that respond to human touch with sound.

A giant Connect Four game and a rainbow scavenger hunt will be part of the final Sunday Spot on Oct. 18, along with a monster mashup and group fitness classes.
