UPTOWN — The Sustainable September Ride Series will conclude its bicycle tours of neighborhoods in Uptown Wednesday.

"From Roots to Fruits" will explore Uptown and Edgewater's historic landmarks and community gardens beginning at Clarendon Park, 4501 N. Clarendon Ave. taking a break at the Institute of Environmental Sustainability at Loyola, according to a press release for the event.

The ride, presented by Chicago Sustainability Leaders Network, Slow Roll Chicago and LISC Chicago, will begin at 6:30 p.m., but riders should meet at the park by 6 p.m. The journey will be about 8 miles in total and should end around 8:30 p.m., according to Joseph Taylor, a spokesman for the Institute of Cultural Affairs.

Uptown is the fifth and final stop on the tour, which also made stops in Englewood, Little Village, North Lawndale, Back of the Yards and Austin. The Sustainable Tour is part of the Is It Just Space event series, which explores the intersection of space and justice through different perspectives and experiences, Taylor said.

Slow Roll Chicago was launched in September by Jamal Julien and Olatunji Oboi Reed. About 75 people show up to their first Englewood bike ride in August.

Slow Roll aims "to engage people who aren't active," so the pace of the ride will be a "slow roll" for everyone to enjoy. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bike, but loaners will be available on a first come, first served basis. Riders can also use Divvy bikes, but the ride will exceed the 30 minute time cap, Taylor said.

The ride is free and you can RSVP here.
