UPTOWN — Follow the story of an Afghanistan veteran turned bartender as she battles her demons in a Chicago basement bar when "Hoist" premieres at The Alley Stage this weekend.

"Hoist," presented by Foundling's Theatre and Wheelhouse Theatre, runs Friday through Nov. 7 at 4147 N. Broadway. The play by Erin Lane has been featured in festivals and theater conferences across the country, but is premiering for the first time in Chicago on the Alley Stage, according to a news release.

"Hoist" follows Skyler, after her stint in Afghanistan, as "she struggles to gain control over her present life" to no avail as she bartends her nights away. When a familiar face appears in the bar, she realizes there is no escaping the past, according to the release.

"'Hoist' gives voice to women who have been silenced by both the government they have served and by their love for the country they have sacrificed for," director Cheryl Snodgrass said. "This play will speak to those men and women who have served in our military but, more importantly, it should be seen by those who haven't."

The play will run at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays. Tickets for the show are $25.
