PORTAGE PARK — The O.A. Thorp Scholastic Academy Local School Council is looking to fill two vacant seats.

The council, which is in charge of the school's budget, rules and selecting the principal every four years, is looking for a parent representative as well as a community representative, Principal Efren Toledo said.

Parent representatives must have a student enrolled at O.A. Thorp, and cannot be an employee of the Chicago Board of Education.

Community representatives should have a connection to the school but are not required to live in the school's immediate neighborhood, Toledo said.

Thorp, 6024 W. Warwick Ave., is a magnet school. The council typically meets on the second Monday of the month.

Those interested in either position should fill out an online application, Toledo said.

The deadline to apply to serve as a parent representative is Oct. 13, while the application deadline for the community representative position is Nov. 11.
