CHICAGO — A 28-year-old man was fatally shot in Austin Thursday night, according to police. 

The man was with a group of friends in the 200 block of South Laramie Avenue around 8:40 p.m. when two men got out of a passing car and opened fire, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was shot in his back and taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Estrada said.

The victim was later identified as John Davis, of the 5300 block of West Ohio Street, by Cook County Medical Examiner's records. Davis died at 12:05 a.m. Friday of mulitple gunshot wounds, according to the Examiner's Office.

No arrests have been made. Police said the shooting could be gang-related.
