Man Tries to Lure Young Girl Into Car in Calumet Heights, Police Say

CALUMET HEIGHTS — A man tried to lure a school-age girl into his car on the Far South Side Wednesday morning, according to a community alert released by the Chicago Police Department.

Around 8:40 a.m., the alert said, the man drove up to the girl, who was waiting for her school bus in the 9400 block of South Stony Island Avenue, and motioned for her to get in his car. She shook her head and boarded the bus.

When she arrived at her school in the 9500 block of South Michigan Avenue, police said, the man appeared behind her and yelled "Come here." She ran into the school and reported the incident the police.

Police described the potential kidnapper as a thin, dark-skinned black man in his 30s, standing about 5-foot-8 with short black hair. He was wearing a light blue shirt and dark blue jeans, police said, and he was driving a black Chevrolet Impala.

Anyone with information on the incident or the suspect is asked to call detectives at 312-747-8271.
