BEVERLY — A crowd of onlookers in Beverly were stargazing in the daytime on Tuesday.

About 50 people gathered on the southwest corner of 101st Street and Oakley Avenue to get a glimpse at the filming of a scene for "Chicago Fire."

The NBC drama took over the otherwise quiet street corner for filming as well as the adjacent Bell Avenue to park trucks and other television-making equipment.

"It's really cool to have them right around the block," said Quinlin Kelly, who lives near 102nd Street and Bell Avenue in Beverly.

Kelly grew up in the area and watches the show fairly regularly. She believes it captures the drama and danger of being a Chicago firefighter quite well.

Jeanne Delaney of Morgan Park was brought on as an extra. She said the scene on Tuesday involved a kid's birthday party and an adult being accidentally electrocuted.

"I've never done this before. It's kinda cool," said Delaney, who was told to meet at nearby Sutherland Elementary School at 6 a.m.

She said the scene is set in the fall — despite Tuesday's heat — and that she should look shocked and concerned during the filming.

Rebecca Healy looked out her window on Tuesday to see the crew setting up for the day's activities. She had other plans for the day but chose to hang out around the set instead.

"We just can't stop looking at this," Healy said.

Her 5-year-old daughter, Erin, even got into the act by climbing into an ambulance meant for the scene. The ambulance was parked directly in front of the Healy house on 101st Street and Oakley Avenue.

"It's been so exciting," Healey said.
