UPTOWN — The Sunnyside Mall Committee will try out some new ideas to brighten up Sunnyside Mall Thursday by installing temporary art installations.

And they hope the community will come out and help, the group said.

From 5 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., the group will be teaming up with CNU Illinois and AIA Chicago to install a series of simple, low cost, tactical interventions in the two-block long pedestrian mall on Sunnyside Avenue from Beacon Street to Magnolia Avenue. The event is free and attendees do not need to be members to participate, but the group asks that you sign up here.

The interventions are intended to liven up the space and will serve as a pilot program allowing community groups to test some creative ideas before pursuing permanent installations. The event will focus on "dynamic, low tech improvements that might include chalking patterns on the street, adding bright colors with streamers and tree tape, and hanging painted bird feeders," CNU Illinois said on their website.
