Old Town Man, 27, Charged with Murder in 48-Year-old Man's Stabbing

CHICAGO — Police have charged an Old Town man a stabbing that left a 48-year-old man dead early Friday morning.

Michael Lomec, 48 was found unresponsive after being choked, beaten and stabbed in the back in his home in the 1300 block of North Burling Street around 1:30 a.m. Friday, according to Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago Police spokeswoman, and morgue records.

Police said they believe the slaying was domestic-related.

Lomec allegedly had been in a "physical altercation" with 27-year-old Geno Rhodes, of the 300 block of West Schiller Street, according to charges announced Sunday afternoon.

Rhodes faces one felony count of first-degree murder.

Lomec was pronounced dead at 2:36 a.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the morgue. He died of the stab wounds and "blunt force" injuries, and his death was ruled a homicide.
