Diversey or Belmont? Readers Weigh in on Logan Square Boundaries

By Paul Biasco | August 13, 2015 9:26am

LOGAN SQUARE — Does Logan Square's northern boundary end at Belmont or Diversey?

Neighborhoods are important to Chicagoans. That might be an understatement, but what is clear is that those neighborhood boundaries aren't set in stone in the eyes of many.

On Wednesday, DNAinfo Chicago launched an interactive Web app to hear from our readers in the neighborhoods what they think are their true neighborhood boundaries.

After one day of readers' drawings, the central area of Logan Square is pretty clear, but the boundaries to the north, south and west are up for debate.

The most obvious boundary in question is the northern boundary. The official community areas map declares Logan Square ends at Diversey, but many readers disagree and extended the boundary to Belmont.

The most defined western boundary was Pulaski, but many readers extended west to Kostner or Cicero.

To the south, North Avenue was the most well-defined boundary. Some readers cut the neighborhood off at Bloomingdale (along the new 606 park) and others stopped it at Armitage.

Some of the shifting boundaries can no doubt be traced to real estate agents and landlords on Craigslist (HUGE 4BR in West Logan Square!).

The city is officially divided into 77 community areas, but those areas don't represent some of the city's neighborhoods, including Bucktown and Wicker Park, which both fall under the Logan Square community area).
