RIVER NORTH — Tanta in River North is spreading some love, in the form of free empanadas, in celebration of its second birthday.
The Peruvian eatery at 118 W. Grand Ave. will hand out three kinds of empanadas from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. As of now there is no limit on how many free empanadas people can receive, but supplies are limited.
The empanadas — or stuffed South American pastries — will come in three flavors:
• "Tamal" with Peruvian sweet corn, cilantro, queso fresco, and huancaína (aji amarillo pepper) sauce.
• "Pollo" with rotisserie chicken, red onion, raisin, black olive, and rocoto pepper cream.
• "Carne de Res" with beef sirloin, red onion, raisin, and huacatay (mint-like herb) sauce.
"Pisco Sour" cocktails with BarSol Quebranta Pisco, egg white, lime, sugar, and amargo chuncho bitters will also be served for $10. Live music will be played on the restaurant's rooftop from 5 to 9 p.m.
