COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Washington Heights man was held without bail Tuesday after prosecutors said he shot and seriously injured two people during a liquor run last month.

Christopher Kirby, 21, allegedly said "Get out of the car, you punk a-- b----" before opening fire at several people who left a South Side party to go buy liquor with him on July 19, Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti said during a bond hearing Tuesday.

A 30-year-old woman who was shot in her abdomen now has a collapsed lung, two tubes in her heart and nerve damage on the left side of her body, prosecutors said.

A 27-year-old man was shot in his face, hip, buttocks and wrist — and had his wallet and phone stolen, according to Antonietti.

"You pose a threat and a danger to everyone," Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. told Kirby in court Tuesday. "No bail."

Kirby, of the 1700 block of West 90th Street, was arrested on a warrant Sunday and charged with aggravated battery by discharging a firearm. Prosecutors said several witnesses identified him as the shooter.

The incident happened about 3 a.m. on July 19 in the 9100 block of South Ashland Avenue.

Kirby and both victims had spent the night at a party, Antonietti said. The male victim left several times to buy more liquor, and during his third and final trip to the store, he brought with him Kirby, the female victim and at least one other person, Antonietti added.

After the group purchased liquor, their car pulled into an alley near 91st Street and Ashland Avenue, according to prosecutors.

Kirby stepped out of the car, opened a passenger door, pointed a gun at the male victim and said "Get out of the car, you punk a-- b----," Antonietti said. Kirby then opened fire, striking both victims.

He proceeded to point his gun at the third passenger, according to prosecutors, but the passenger grabbed the gun, pushed it away and ran off.

Police found six shell casings on the scene, Antonietti said. Each was from the same gun.

The male victim told police he felt someone touching his pants and pockets before he passed out that morning, Antonietti said. The man later realized his wallet, ID, phone and $70 or $80 cash had been stolen, she added.

Kirby's criminal history includes an aggravated-battery conviction in Lake County.

His public defender said Kirby works at a car wash near 95th Street and Ashland Avenue, and is expecting his first child.
