CHICAGO — In July, the Foster Police District reported more than 150 serious crimes including 100 thefts and at least 10 aggravated attacks, according to data available through the Chicago Police Department website.
The Foster District is bordered by Peterson Avenue, Lawrence Avenue, Lake Michigan and as far west as Virginia Avenue. It includes portions of Lincoln Square, Uptown, West Ridge and Edgewater. It includes beats 2011, 2012, 2013, 2031, 2032, 2033, 2022, 2023 and 2024, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Of the 100-plus thefts, at least 10 times people were robbed of more than $500. About 50 times people reported they were robbed of less than $500. Another 25 robberies occurred in a retail store, according to the website.
Eight aggravated assaults and four aggravated batteries occurred in July. Of the 12 attacks, seven involved a gun and three involved a knife. Seven people were robbed and another 12 people reported vehicle thefts, the website said.
More than 40 incidents occurred between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. About 80 incidents occurred between 2 and 10 p.m. And another 30 occurred between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Twice as much crime occurred between 2 and 10 p.m. than the other 16 hours combined, according to the data.
An arrest was made in 25 of the incidents or in about one out of six incidents, according to the data.
Two blocks reported the most incidents. The 1800 block of West Lawrence Avenue had seven incidents and the 5200 block of North Sheridan Road had 15 incidents in July, according to the data.
One sexual assault was reported in July. It occurred around 3 a.m. July 8 in the 1000 block of West Hollywood Avenue, according to police.
