CHICAGO — A teenager shot early Saturday morning in North Lawndale has died, officials said.
An 18-year-old man was walking in the 1200 block of South St. Louis Avenue in North Lawndale around 12:15 a.m. Saturday when someone came out of a nearby gangway and shot him, police said.
The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said, with a gunshot wound in his head. He was pronounced dead Monday at 1:49 p.m. at Mount Sinai, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The man was identified Monday as Demetrius Wooten, 18, of the 2700 block of West 15th Street.
Police said the man is a documented gang member, and they believe the shooting was gang-related.
