JEFFERSON PARK — The Chicago chapter of the Thomas Merton Society will discuss how to live a spiritual life at an event at St. Robert Bellarmine Church.

The society is is dedicated to promoting the work of Merton — an American Catholic writer, monk, poet and social activist — who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2015.

"Thomas Merton's Witness: How to Journey Daily on the Spiritual Path to the True Self/God in the 21st Century" will be the topic at 7 p.m. Aug. 21 at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 6036 W. Eastwood Ave.

Retreat leader, teacher and counselor Tony Russo will lead the discussion.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
