COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man on a CTA bus punched and choked a fellow passenger this week — before ripping the passenger's gold chain off his neck, prosecutors said Monday.

The incident happened Sunday morning in the 100 block of West 79th Street as the bus headed eastbound, according to an arrest report.

Kenneth Jones, 24, walked up to 29-year-old passenger and started punching and choking the man, Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said during a bond hearing Monday. Jones then snatched the victim's gold chain — which had an angel charm attached to it — and ran off the bus, the report said.

The bus driver was able to identify Jones, who was arrested a block away about 11 a.m., court records show. Jones was carrying a broken gold chain and an angel charm, according to the arrest report.

Jones, whose home address was unavailable, was charged with robbery and aggravated battery in a public place.

Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. on Monday ordered Jones held in lieu of $150,000 bail.
