15 People Hurt in Shootings Since Sunday Morning, Police Say

CHICAGO — Fifteen people have been wounded in gun violence across the city since early Sunday, police said.

Among the victims was a 5-year-old girl hit by a stray bullet in West Englewood and a 7-year-old boy shot in Belmont-Cragin, police said.

Police said two people were arguing on the 5600 block of South Bishop Avenue when one of them pulled out a gun and fired, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The 5-year-old girl, who was nearby, was shot in her shoulder and taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition, Sedevic said.

After the incident, the shooter drove off in a white SUV, Sedevic said.

Around 8:45 p.m., the 7-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were sitting inside a car in the 2500 block of North Parkside Avenue in Belmont-Cragin when a gray car pulled up and someone inside fired shots, Sedevic said.

The 19-year-old drove them to Community First Hospital, Sedevic said, where they were both in fair condition. The boy had been shot in his shoulder, and the man was treated for a graze wound in his head.

Police said they believe the shooting to be gang-related.

Also Sunday, a man was shot in his hip during a drive-by shooting in River North, police said.

• Most recently, a 17-year-old was shot in his leg in Chicago Lawn, police said.

About 1:40 a.m. Monday morning, the boy was walking in the 6300 block of South Bell Avenue when a man walked up and fired shots before running off, Sedevic said.

The teen was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he's now in fair condition, Sedevic said.

Police said they believe the shooting to be gang-related.

• About 9:50 p.m. Sunday, four men were standing in the 6700 block of South Winchester Avenue in West Englewood when a man walked up and shot at them, Sedevic said.

A 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old man were taken to Christ Medical Center where they were both listed in fair condition, Sedevic said. The 24-year-old was shot in his back, buttocks, leg and finger, and the 25-year-old was shot in his buttocks.

A 19-year-old man and a 25-year-old man were both taken to Stroger Hospital, Sedevic said. The 19-year-old was in fair condition with gunshot wounds in his leg, arm and finger, Sedevic said, and the 25-year-old was in unknown condition after being shot in his back.

Police said they believe the shooting to be gang-related.

• About 8 p.m., three people were shot in South Chicago, police said.

The group was standing in the 8300 block of South Brandon Avenue when a man walked up and fired shots, Sedevic said.

A 26-year-old man was in fair condition at Christ with a gunshot wound in his abdomen, Sedevic said.

A 34-year-old woman was in fair condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound in her back, Sedevic said.

A 39-year-old man was in fair condition at Stroger Hospital with gunshot wounds in her leg and buttocks, Sedevic said.

Police said the man who was shot is a documented gang member.

• At about 7:08 p.m., a 16-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man were standing at the intersection of 108th Street and Wentworth Avenue when a car pulled up and someone inside fired shots, Sedevic said.

The pair drove themselves to Roseland Hospital, where they were listed in good condition, Sedevic said. The boy was shot in his foot and the man was shot in his leg, Sedevic said.

Police said the boy is a documented gang member.

• Around 4 p.m. Sunday, a 17-year-old was standing in the 600 block of East Pershing Road in Oakland when someone fired shots from a passing minivan, Sedevic said.

The teen was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was listed in good condition with a gunshot wound in his leg, Sedevic said.

Police said the teen, who is not cooperating with police, is a documented gang member.
