ENGLEWOOD — Lindblom Math & Science Academy students will start their school day later when classes begin in September.

Chicago Public Schools are cutting costs by changing bell schedules this fall at more than 75 schools. Lindblom students will begin an hour later for the 2015-2016 school year. Instead of starting at 8 a.m., the day will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4:05 p.m.

Principal Alan Mather acknowledged that budgets are tighter, but he ensured parents that the cuts will not affect their child’s learning.

“We are dedicated to ensuring that students receive the same high-quality education they always have at Lindblom Math & Science Academy,” he said in an email.

There will be some hits, though.

Stipends for coaches for seventh and eighth grade students were slashed. Mather said the school is considering fundraising options.

A back-to-school night will be held at the school at 6130 S. Wolcott Ave. at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 15.
