CHICAGO — It's going start costing a few bucks more to ride Divvy, officials said.

According to ABC7, Divvy will announced that the daily fee will jump from $7 to $9.95. About two-thirds of daily pass users are from outside of the city.

The yearly rate of $75 will not be increased. About 86 percent of annual members are Chicago residents, ABC7 reports.

Divvy recently doubled its service area and the hike will cover the cost of expanding the bike sharing program.

Divvy lost $500,000 in operating cost in 2014 and the city was forced to use grants to erase the debt. The price boost is expected to bring in an additional $800,000 annually, the Chicago Tribune reports.

"Divvy was launched at a time when big cities were just beginning to launch bike-share programs, and many of the financial predictions we made were based on other industries, without having a direct precedent to look to in the bike-share world," the city said in a statement to the Tribune. "... We expect that as the bike-share industry matures, we will be able to attract even more revenue in this manner."
