BRIDGEPORT — Project Onward, a local non-profit for adult artists with mental disorders and disabilities, will open two new gallery shows at the Bridgeport Art Center’s Third Friday gathering.

The reception runs from 6-10 p.m. at 1200 W. 35th St. and features “The Rookies,” the non-profit’s annual showcase of work by new and emerging Project Onward artists.

The gallery will spotlight paper models of Disney castles by Janno Juguilon, mechanical drawings by Kareem Davis and paintings by David Hence.

The second galley, titled “Old School,” showcases the work of Michael Smith, Elizabeth Barren, and Michael Hopkins.

Smith, one of Project Onward’s founding members, will display figurative drawings done in colored pencil and pastel over the last decade.

You'll also get a glimpse of Barren’s fashion-centric mixed-media portraits and Hopkins’ portraits of jazz and blues legends.

Project Onward plans to draw the winner of its Lollapalooza 2015 raffle during the event. To get a raffle ticket, head up to the fourth floor of the Bridgeport Art Center before Friday.
