PORTAGE PARK — With the mercury set to rise in the upper 80s this weekend, Bike 45 will attempt to beat the heat with a 15-mile bicycle tour of Far Northwest Side ice cream shops.

The ride will leave at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from City News Cafe, 4018 N. Cicero Ave. before stopping at Josi's Frozen Yogurt Cafe, 4032 N. Milwaukee Ave., and the Chocolate Shoppe, 5337 W. Devon Ave.

Ald. John Arena (45th) founded Bike 45 to promote biking and bike safety in Jefferson Park and parts of Portage Park, Gladstone Park, Old Irving Park, Norwood Park and Forest Glen.

The ride will stick to side streets as much as possible, but short stretches will take place on Milwaukee and Elston avenues, organizers said.

Bicyclists of all ages are welcome to ride, but children younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and adult riders may accompany no more than three children per adult rider.
