EAST VILLAGE — Back when Chicago was a grittier place (and indoor plumbing was not universal), working-class citizens flocked to public bath houses run by the city's Department of Hygiene.  On Tuesday, constituents eager to meet new 2nd Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins can do so in a three-bedroom single family home that was once a bathhouse.

Steve Niketopoulos, a spokesman for Hopkins, confirmed that the Open House/Meet and Greet honoring Hopkins is set for 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at what was Lincoln Public Bath, 1019 N. Wolcott St.

Lincoln Public Bath was one of 19 city bath houses constructed between 1894 and 1918, and one of four still standing, according to Forgotten Chicago. The house was the second to last public bath built by the city and among the most ornate when it debuted in 1918.

Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd) will be at an open house and meet and greet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lincoln Public Bath in East Village.

In addition to Lincoln Bath, there are two other former public bathhouses: at 1446 N. Greenview Ave. and at 2140 W. Grand Ave.
