1 Dead, 10 Wounded in Shootings Since Saturday Afternoon, Police Say

CHICAGO — One man is dead, and at least 10 other people were wounded in shootings across the city since Saturday afternoon, police said.

In South Shore, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot when a man walked out of a gangway and fired shots, striking him in his chest.

In Lakeview, a man was shot in his arm while driving down Irving Park Road by a person on a motorcycle just before 6 p.m.

• Most recently, a 22 year-old man was sitting inside a parked vehicle in the 5200 block of South Talman Avenue in Gage Park, when a man walked behind the vehicle and started firing shots at 5:20 a.m., said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was shot in the back of his head, and his friend drove him to Holy Cross Hospital where he was listed in fair condition, Sedevic said.

• Around 3:10 a.m. in Washington Heights, a 23-year-old man was inside a vehicle in the 9100 block of South Carpenter Street when shots were fired by a gunman, striking the him in his leg. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center and listed in good condition, Sedevic said.

• An hour earlier in Englewood, a 16-year-old boy was walking with a friend in the 700 block of West 59th Street, when a man got out of a red vehicle and fired shots, before leaving the scene around 2 a.m., Sedevic said.

The teenager was shot in both legs and buttocks, and taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition, Sedevic said.

Police were investigating whether the shooting was gang related.

• In Chatham, fifteen minutes earlier, a 35-year-old man was shot in his stomach and a 25-year-old was shot in his leg while in the 8000 block of South Ellis Avenue. The men were both taken to Stroger Hospital. The 35-year-old was listed in fair condition, and the younger man was listed in good condition, Sedevic said.

According to police, both men are documented gang members.

• In West Garfield Park, just before midnight, a 27-year-old man was sitting in a parked car in the 4300 block of West West End Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain, Sedevic said.

The man was shot in his thigh and taken to West Suburban Hospital and listed in fair condition, Sedevic said.

• In Austin around 10:10 p.m., a 28-year-old woman was getting out of the front passenger seat of an SUV in the 700 block of North Lavergne Avenue when a man walked up and fired shots, Sedevic said.

The woman was shot in her cheek, and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, Sedevic said.

• Around 5:10 p.m. in Morgan Park, a 17-year-old boy was shot in his arm in the 11300 block of South Racine Avenue. The teenager drove himself to Trinity Hospital where he was listed in fair condition, Sedevic said.

According to police, the boy is a documented gang member.

• Several hours earlier, a 42-year-old-man was sitting in his vehicle in th 11500 block of South Laflin Street in West Pullman, when shots were fired from a passing sedan around 1:20 p.m., Sedevic said.

He was shot in his right leg and taken to Metro South Medical Center in fair condition, Sedevic said.

According to police, the man is a documented gang member.
