NORWOOD PARK — Bryn Mawr Avenue will be closed for 10 days at the Union Pacific Railroad tracks between Avondale Avenue and Northwest Highway starting Monday, Ald. John Arena (45th) said.

The crews will make necessary safety repairs to the street-level crossing, Arena said. The work is expected to be completed by July 3, he added.

Drivers should avoid the area, or use Northwest Highway rather than Bryn Mawr Avenue, Arena said.

The crossing is near Taft High School and Hitch Elementary School.

In March 2014, a 17-year-old Taft student was killed when he was struck by a train in the 6300 block of Bryn Mawr Avenue, officials said.

The railroad crossing at Bryn Mawr Avenue is one block south of the crossing at Nagle and Avondale avenues, which a 2010 investigation by the Chicago Tribune found was the most dangerous in Northeast Illinois.
