CHICAGO — A 15-year-old boy was fatally shot in Lawndale Wednesday night, police said.

Around 10 p.m., the boy was shot in his back by a man during a fight in the 4100 block of West Cullerton Street, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Sedevic said.

Kimon Wheeler, 15, of the 2100 W. Jackson St., was pronounced dead at 11:38 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

According to the Tribune, the teen was shot during attempted robbery while he was hanging out with his cousins. Neighbors and witnesses said people were having a roman candle fight on the block just before the shooting, the Tribune reported.

Neighbors told the Tribune that they've seen an increase of youth fighting with fireworks since a roman candle fight was caught on video earlier this month.

No one is in custody for the shooting.
