EDGEWATER — For the 63rd year, Chicagoans don't have to choose between two favorite local pastimes: Taking in an off-Broadway play or enjoying time along the lakefront.
Thanks to the Chicago Park District's Theater on the Lake summer program, for $10 each, residents can see five different encore theater performances at three different parks during the series' eight-week run.
Beginning June 17, the program's first four shows will appear at Berger Park Cultural Center, 6205 N. Sheridan Road in the city's Far North Edgewater community.
The season's fifth show will run concurrently with the fourth show and will play firat the Washington Park Refractory, 5531 S. Russell Drive, then onto the Austin Town Hall at its 5610 W. Lake St. location. Those showings are free to all.
Here are this season's shows:
- June 17-21, 24-28: Bailiwick Chicago presents "Murder Ballad"
- July 8-12, 15-19: Theater Oobleck presents "Song About Himself"
- July 22-26, 29-Aug. 2: Jackalope Theatre Company presents "Four"
- Aug. 5-9, 12-16: Definition Theatre Company presents "A Doll's House"
- Aug. 5-9 (Washington Park), 12-15 (Austin): Oracle Productions presents "This House Believes The American Dream Is At The Expense Of The American Negro"
