BEVERLY — If the Stanley Cup afterglow wasn't enough to make your pop happy for Father's Day, a free Rainbow Cone might do the trick.

The iconic Beverly ice cream shop at 9233 S. Western Ave. will be serving dads free Rainbow Cones — that's tasty chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (that’s New York vanilla with cherries and walnuts), pistachio ice creams and orange sherbet that are sliced rather than scooped — on Sunday.

Rainbow Cone manager Michelle Desnoyer says that the Father's Day giveaway is especially popular. Last year, the shop dished out 500 free cones — that's 100 more free cones than Mother's Day, and proof that dads love free stuff more than moms.

In order to score Dad's free treat, you'll have to pry him from the recliner (or the golf course), bring him to the shop and buy a cone for yourself. That's part of the deal.

Here's a hint: Get there early. Rainbow Cone opens at noon.
