SAUGANASH — The next phase of a project to replace the sewer under Keystone Avenue in Sauganash will force the street to close to traffic this week and restrict parking, Ald. Margaret Laurino (39th) said.
Crews are set to work on Keystone Avenue sewer from 6030 N. Keystone Ave. to Glenlake Avenue, forcing the street to close to traffic for four or five days this week, Laurino said.
Residents can get to Keystone Avenue from Peterson Avenue and from Glenlake Avenue and Pulaski Road, Laurino said.
Once that work is complete, crews will replace the sewer underneath the intersection of Glenlake Avenue and Keystone Avenue, blocking traffic, Laurino said. That work should take two to three days, Laurino said.
Traffic will be allowed on Keystone Avenue from Peterson Avenue to Glenlake Avenue, which will be open from Pulaski Road to Keystone Avenue during that phase of the project, Laurino said.
Crews will make their way east toward Pulaski Road, requiring parking restrictions and road closures.
The final phase of the project is scheduled to begin the week of June 22 and last for approximately five weeks, Laurino said.
Pulaski Road will be closed to through traffic from Glenlake to Granville avenues and parking will be restricted in the area, Laurino said.
A detour map for drivers will be released before the final phase begins, Laurino said.
Crews are working throughout the city to replace 12-inch sewer mains with significantly larger pipes in an effort to prevent nearby homes from flooding, city officials said.
