COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — The man accused of pointing a gun at police in Logan Square near the Bloomingdale Trail this weekend was held on $90,000 bail Monday.

Rafael Corona, 29, was charged with drinking alcohol on the public way, aggravated assault of a peace officer, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member and armed habitual criminal.

Police were called to the 1700 block of North Talman Avenue shortly after midnight Sunday to investigate a gang disturbance, according to an arrest report.

Officers spotted Corona holding a half-finished bottle of Corona beer, court records show. Corona took off running when he saw the cops, ducked into a gangway, pulled a gun and pointed it at the officers, police said. One of the officers pulled his weapon and fired a single shot toward Corona, missing him.

Corona, of the 1700 block of North Rockwell Avenue, put down his gun and was arrested.

The incident was just a block away from the Bloomingdale Trail, which had its opening festival, drawing massive crowds Saturday.

On Monday, Cook County Judge James Brown ordered Corona held in lieu of $90,000 bail.
