EDGEWATER — Roller derby fans, fasten your skates because on June 13, famed teams the Windy City All Star Rollers and the Chicago Outfit Syndicate will go head-to-head to declare a city champion for the first time in either league's history, in order "to see which Chicago team truly reigns supreme."

"The stakes for this bout are high," Windy City Rollers write on their website. "Bragging rights and local legend status are on the line!"

At 7:30 p.m., the two all-women's teams — which have never played each other — will square off at the Broadway Armory, 5917 North Broadway in Edgewater, followed by an after-party up the street at Bar 63, 6341 North Broadway.

To kick off the inaugural championship, the Chicago Bruise Brothers, an all-male team, will take on the Second Wind, a branch of Windy City Rollers, at 6 p.m. in a "scuffle of the genders" that will make way for the big event.

The Windy City Rollers are a nationally ranked Division 1 team and "are currently standing at No. 13 in the world," according to an event page.

Organizers are expecting a full house with limited space and are encouraging fans to come early. Tickets are $15 and children under 5 are free.
