GOLD COAST — "Star Wars" creator George Lucas might be behind the record-setting $18.75 million purchase of a Park Tower penthouse.
The penthouse was sold to a firm that has ties to Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, according to the Tribune. The $18.75 million sale is the highest amount paid for a home in Chicago. The record was previously held by Sanjay Shah, who bought a penthouse in Trump Tower for $17 million.
If the Trib is right, the 65th floor penthouse at 800 N. Michigan Ave., would fit with the filmmaker's tastes. He also owns two other spectacular places.
In Carpinteria, California, Lucas has a $19.5 million mansion across 1.7 ocean-front acres. The gated compound has six bedrooms, four bathrooms and an exercise room spread across two buildings.
Of course, Lucas is best known for his $100 million Skywalker ranch near Nicasio, California. The 4,700-acre Skywalker ranch serves as Lucas' headquarters. It features vineyards, a 300-seat theater, a soundstage, library and observatory, among other luxuries. There's also a fire station and underground parking.
Lucas and Hobson held a star-studded wedding reception in Chicago in June 2013 after marrying at Skywalker ranch. Hobson is the president of Ariel Investments, a Chicago-based company.
