CHICAGO — A 39-year-old man was fatally shot in Garfield Park Sunday.

Around 3:30 p.m., the man was standing in the 3200 block of West Maypole Avenue when someone opened fire from a beige van, striking the man in his abdomen, said Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Cooper said.

He was identified as Lasean Barnes, of the 3000 block of Wesst Polk Street. He was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The van drove off eastbound on Maypole Avenue after the shooting and no one is in custody, Cooper said.
